Stayed at Sheriff Lodge over the weekend in ‘The Nest’ had the most amazing time, location is perfect with fantastic walks gorgeous countryside and fresh air!!
My room was sumptuous beautifully decorated in relaxing pastel colours everything was very clean and comfortable. Ziz was amazing and provided a delicious breakfast with homemade breads, jam, marmalade and even freshly made hollandaise!! Felt truly spoilt and refreshed ready for my busy week ahead.
Thank you so much I will be back!!!
Wonderful welcome, wonderful location
We stayed for two days in our Fox Room, with excellent breakfasts and home comforts like being able to watch videos in our room.
Ziz was such a great host! A really high standard of decor. Thank you and we look forward to our next visit.
Thanks for making our stay so special
I would just like to say a big thank you for making our stay in the Peak District so special.
We were delighted about our stay with you at the Sheriff Lodge, it was wonderful, we would definitely like to return and use it as a base for further exploring of the amazing Peak District.
Thank you for your suggestion of visiting Tissington village after our visit to Dove Dale, the cream tea was worth it.
We look forward to visiting you again in the future.
First Class B&B
This place is an absolute gem. Run by Ziz who is passionate about providing a first class experience, from the warm welcome, to the spotlessly clean and comfortable rooms, to the superb high quality breakfasts, to the great advice about local restaurants and places to visit. Nothing is too much trouble, for example I mentioned that I can’t drink caffeine drinks anymore. There was already instant decaf in the room, but Ziz went out and sourced decaf capsules for the coffee machine in the room the next day to make sure I could use it. Parking is available in a decent sized car park for the property, which is yet another plus. Thanks Ziz for a wonderful stay. Highly recommended.
Immaculate accommodation. spotlessly clean, extremely comfortable spacious rooms, easy parking, convenient location close to shops, amenities and public transport.
Excellent breakfast cooked to perfection with a wide choice to suit all tastes and appetite. (Home baked bread is delicious).
It is easy to understand why Sheriff Lodge is ranked so highly and hard to imagine anything better.
I would not waste time looking elsewhere to stay if I were to visit Matlock again.
Stayed here for 3 weeks while working nearby. We had the basement room – The Warren which was very comfortable and clean and cool for the warm summer days we were lucky enough to get. Only 15mins drive from Chatsworth House. Plenty of good cycling and walking in the area. Dog friendly. Ziz the owner was extremely helpful in accommodating our early breakfasts and even got some of our laundry done which was really helpful considering our long working days.
Sheriff Lodge B&B
I was very fortunate to stay at Sheriff Lodge last week. I booked for one overnight stay and was upgraded to the Nest, which is a lovely, peaceful airy room with a beautiful view across the valley towards Riber Castle. The room was very well appointed and every amenity was there, including a luxury robe, coffee machine, Gilchrist and Soames toiletries, ‘Things You Might Have Forgotten’ box and more than you would expect on the hospitality tray. The breakfast was delicious. Sheriff Lodge has been upgraded in recent months both inside and out, since the new owner has taken over and is fresh and bright and very peaceful and tranquil. I will be returning shortly and hopefully with golfing friends for a few days. Ziz has negotiated with a few attractions and restaurants for a discount for her guests including green fees at Matlock Golf Course (£20.00) which looks like a good course.
We booked this B&B very last minute for a work trip and we weren’t disappointed.
We unfortunately couldn’t arrive until 10pm but Ziz was so accommodating and made us a feel at home immediately.
She took the time to find out about us and what we were hoping to get out of our stay.
Breakfast was just incredible and our room, the Nest, was beautiful. The bed was so comfy we were planning how we could get it home with us
We would recommend this B&B to everyone!
Thank you Ziz for looking after us,
From your virtual guests x
Birthday Weekend Away
Perched on a hill easily within walking distance of the town centre this is really a little gem. Beautiful rooms, great host and well serviced with amenities.
We wanted a walk and the provision of a whole host of maps meant we managed to find a cracking little route (Chee Dale) and were able to take the guide book with us.
The breakfast is simply stunning. Great coffee, all local food produce and plenty of it too. The jumblie was very good.
Sheriff lodge gets discount at a number of the local restaurants although we tried Herd and Firejack.
Weekend in Matlock
We stayed here for one night and found it to be amazing value.
The rooms are very clean and well dressed.
The breakfast was just what the doctor ordered.
I will only book this hotel from now on when travelling to Derbyshire.
I can’t rate it highly enough.
May Day Break
We stayed at Sheriff Lodge for two nights over the May Day bank holiday. We arrived at 12.00 and our room was ready. The room called the Nest was of a good size, massive bed and plenty of storage space. Ziz is an excellent hostess serving tea and home made cake every afternoon and giving suggestions of where to eat and visit. One tip would be not to book popular attractions before arrival as Ziz has negotiated significant discounts for her guests. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice including home made bread. Do not hesitate to book this B and B.
Sheriff Lodge Matlock
This must be the best and friendliest B&B I’ve come across!
I normally don’t write reviews but this is such a brilliant find that I just have to share!
Lost of history in and around Matlock, well worth a visit and after a lovely day out just chill at Sheriff Lodge with a cup of tea and homemade slice of homemade cake!
Live local, booked elderly father-in-law 2 nights, owner invited us to second mornings breakfast… totally unexpected but typical of new owners hospitality. Delicious classic English breakfasts well presented & cooked,in timely fashion. Perfect start to a fine May Day. Thank you B&B at its finest.
We stayed at the Sheriff Lodge a week ago for our wedding anniversary and were extremely impressed. The room was lovely (the nest) with an amazing view! The owner could not do enough for you including a fabulous breakfast! A hidden gem would definitely visit again
We have just enjoyed a two night stay at Sheriff Lodge. Ziz has created a stylish yet cosy and comfortable retreat for anyone wishing to stay in the area. The room we had was spacious, very clean and had everything you could need for a short break.
The breakfasts are amazing! I almost wish we could have stayed longer to sample more of the many offerings.
Ziz has got the perfect balance of hospitality – welcoming, friendly yet discreet and it’s those little touches that make it a place to recommend and hopefully return to one day.
Wishing you all the best in your venture
Friendly and Comfortable
Only stayed the one night but most welcoming from arrival to departure. Rooms are a good size and the location allows for a good nights sleep with excellent views from the highest rooms. Sufficient parking for all visitors.
Visited over Easter and had an amazing time, the B&B owner was lovely on our arrival she even invited us to meet her beloved puppy reddy! (Who was just a beaut)!
The room we stayed in was the family basement (due to there being 5 of us) and we were pleasantly surprised, very spacious and cosy, and a huge comfy double bed.
The breakfast well what can I say if you ever go there pleaseeee order the eggs benedict the sauce is homemade and was amazingggg!!
The owner was a gem very catering and welcoming, made us feel at easy and put on a lovely spread of tea and cake.
I would recommend this B&B to family and friends.
Thank you for an amazing time.
Fabulous Weekend Family Celebration
Three generations of our family met at Sheriff Lodge to celebrate Dad’s birthday. Ziz could not have made us feel more welcome in her lovely home and her hospitality went a long way to make the weekend such a success.
All the bedrooms are beautifully appointed and extremely comfortable and the breakfasts are amazing plus she was happy to cater for both the early and the later (younger) risers!!
We have already booked a return trip in July and look forward to seeing Ziz then.
This really is a lovely, welcoming B&B. Very clean, spacious rooms, off road parking. Very quiet but close to Matlock town centre. Bed was super comfortable and lots of nice touches in the room. Lots of choice for breakfast, really is a home from home. Highly recommended.
Quiet, friendly, welcoming
A friend and I spent a night here and we couldn’t have been made more welcome by Ziz in her relaxed and comfortable B&B EXCELLENT breakfasts made with fresh and local ingredients, fresh coffee and juices – we’ll be back !
Home Away form Home
My partner and I stayed at Sheriff Lodge for a long weekend and had a fantastic experience. The house is perfectly located, close enough that you can walk to the restaurants but located further up the valley where it is perfectly silent and peaceful.
The breakfast was brilliant and had a lot of choice but also catered for food allergies or preferences. Ziz made fresh bread every morning and also used all locally sourced ingredients – I recommend the sausages from the local butcher!
Our room was beautifully decorated with idyllic views across the valley. The beds were really comfortable and the room immaculate. Ziz had lovely extra touches like the homemade soaps as well.
Ziz is a fantastic host and makes Sheriff Lodge even more special. She gave advice on where to walk within the area and places to visit – Chatsworth Estate has a brilliant deli and she also recommended a great pub after our walk.
Lovely place to stay and we will definitely be going back. I have already recommended to friends and family as it is a charming place to get away from home.
Perfect weekend getaway
I stayed at Sheriff Lodge a couple of weeks ago and felt that it provided the perfect balance between the comforts of home and a chic retreat.
The bedrooms are cosy enough to make you feel as if you’re in a familiar space and yet still very elegantly decorated.
There’s a wide array of choices for breakfast, in particular the cooked breakfasts and home made bread shouldn’t be missed!
Finally, Ziz was very welcoming and had excellent knowledge about the surrounding area. She didn’t hesitate to advise me when I asked her about the walks and activities to do around the area.
It’s a beautiful area, I’d really recommend it for a tranquil weekend away!
My partner picked this B&B as a break for me following a very testing few months. He couldn’t have chosen better. The location is perfect for the centre and walking over High Tor to Matlock Bath. Ziz was a great host! I’ve never been asked when I’d like breakfast before and it was nice to feel able to suggest a time that gave us a lie in! Gorgeous breakfast too with so much choice. There are some really thoughtful touches in the room – an emergency kit if you forgot something, Gilchrist & Soames toiletries. It was toasty warm up in The Nest too. Great views sitting up in bed from 3 windows. Thank you for looking after us.
My visit to Sheriff Lodge was amazing. Ziz the host was very welcoming and friendly. The bedroom was tastefully decorated and the huge bed was so comfortable and snug I had the best night’s sleep in a long time. The breakfast was exceptional, locally sourced produce cooked to perfection. The delicious marmalade, jam and bread are home-made. Thanks for a wonderful stay, I’ll definitely return!
A perfect location for a break
My wife and I were welcomed warmly for a 2 day stay at Sheriffs Lodge in Matlock – we had a very comfortable room. It was named and very pleasantly ‘themed’ which made it seem personal. Extremely good en-suite with a great shower and toiletries.
After a great night’s sleep we were ‘feasted’ to a very ‘Full English’ with tasty porridge, excellent sausages, eggs and bacon – ALL locally sourced!
The ambience, location and easy access for visiting Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and the Heights of Abraham on the edge of the Peak District National Park coupled with the relaxed and caring hospitality made it a very special stay.
