Bed and Breakfast in Matlock

Welcome to Sheriff Lodge

Formerly a gentleman’s residence and originally built in 1740 then extended in 1908, Sheriff Lodge is now a relaxing and tranquil Bed & Breakfast in Matlock, away from the bustle of the town but still within easy walking distance. In an elevated position, the rooms have a wonderful view of the Derwent Valley and Riber Castle, High Tor and Pic Tor.

All five en-suite rooms have been recently redecorated for a fresh, uplifting yet peaceful feel with lots of extras to make your stay more comfortable, if you are looking for a place to stay in Matlock this is the one. Amenities in the rooms include: ‘Things You May Have Forgotten Box’, seven-foot beds, power showers in all rooms and baths in two of the rooms, luxurious Christy towels, extra blankets, extra pillows, fresh flowers, sweeties, 32” TVs with Netflix, standalone radiator, turbo fan, magazines, as well as more than you would expect on the hospitality tray, with Fairtrade goods where available. You will be offered homemade cake and a cuppa on arrival.

Each room has a bespoke watercolour painted by Will Elliston pertaining to the theme of each room, including a picture of the Lodge itself on the second floor. The mice in the Mousehole is an original. It is a real pleasure to be able to own pieces from such a talented artist. If you have a favourite there are birds in the Nest, an owl in the Loft, squirrels in the Dray and the field mice in the Mousehole, a bunny in the Warren.

No worries about car parking or cycle storage, there is plenty of room for everyone.

The breakfast has a reputation of its own with cooked to order dishes and all products sourced locally, award winning sausages, bacon and black pudding are sourced from EW Coates Butchers, Two Dales. Derbyshire is a beautiful area of the country and there is something for everyone hereattractions for small people, walking, cycling, fishing, stately homes, antique shops, a host of excellent restaurants – all very close and easily accessible. These include Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Heights of Abraham, Crich Tramway Village. Discounts for guests at Sheriff Lodge have been negotiated for these attractions and many of the restaurants in town. There is also the fascinating Matlock Bath; experience the well-dressings particular to Derbyshire, plenty of circular walks with maps and books to borrow. You can go on plenty of walks from the Lodge and pick up the written out directions. There are plenty of leaflets to enhance your stay and help you fill your day.

The garden is available for guests to relax in after a day’s activities or walking. There is a new paved area surrounded by highly fragranced David Austin roses. The garden is being developed back to the formal garden it was. Derwent Treescapes designed the garden over twenty years ago and in conjunction with them the garden is being restored.

Sheriff Lodge is the only dog friendly B&B in Matlock so if you want to bring your furry friend please phone for availability as only a couple of the rooms are dog friendly. There are also rooms where no dogs have ever been so don’t be worried about any allergies.

Please be aware there are four stone steps up to the front door, and none of the rooms are located on the ground floor.
